Writing Samples
First Person: Please write a journal entry in your character's voice on one of the following topics.

Topic A: Your favorite Quidditch team just lost...and by a LOT. How do you react? Do you blame anyone? Do you even care or does it seem like a lot of fuss over nothing?

Topic B: You get home from work to find an owl waiting for you from your father: your beloved grandmother, who's been living in Miami the past several years, has just passed away. Are you heartbroken over this loss or more excited at the prospect of free time off to go to Miami? Do you keep a stiff upper lip or bawl like a little baby?

Topic C: All that hard work and perseverence has paid off--you finally got that promotion! Are you absolutely thrilled, or do you feel guilty about the folks who were passed up in your favor? And what are you going to buy with that hefty new raise?

Third Person: Please write a third person log on one of the following topics.

Topic A: Oh good grief. At what is supposed to be a serious meeting, you can't stop staring at the huge blob of mustard on your boss's robe. That stain almost seems to be...talking to you. Do you point it out or bite your tongue until the end of the meeting? Are you trying desperately not to laugh or does his sloppiness annoy you?

Topic B: There seems to be an awful lot of whispering going on behind you today, and you soon realize why: when you went to the toilet earlier this morning, you completely forgot to zip up your fly, and you've only just noticed now, nearly an hour later! Are you annoyed that no one pointed it out to you or just deathly embarrassed? Do you laugh it off or wish that you could melt into the floor?

Topic C: What an awful blind date! Your mother set you up, so you can't really say as much, but this is clearly the most boring date you've been on in your entire life. Do you bravely stick it out or try to politely excuse yourself? Will your mother ever forgive you if you sneak away?
