The Muggle Liaison Program
The following nonmagical individuals will spend the 2023-2024 year at Hogwarts, after first living for one month in Hogsmeade. They will receive fully functioning magical journals on the 13th of September, at the beginning of the program. There will be ten participants in all.

Note: Suggested PBs are just that - suggestions. They are by no means set in stone, and are only intended to give an idea of the character's personality and general appearance. So if the PB's turning you off to a concept you really like, just say so! :)


Name: Jack Dursley, Davey Dursley (HELD by Sunni)
Age: 18, 15
Blood status: Muggle
Link to magic world: Father Dudley Dursley is cousins with Harry Potter, making them second cousins to the Potters.
Financial status: Comfortable Middle class. Dudley coaches boxing and wrestling at a local secondary school, as well as teaching history.
Reason for wanting to attend Hogwarts (real): Davey, who is what their grandfather would call a “right little swot”, has always been powerfully curious about the Potter family, and about the magical world. Jack, on the other hand, is very much like his father -- suspicious of new things, and not particularly tolerant. He's not nearly as curious and just wants to protect his brother from the freaks. He knows they’ll be at a disadvantage, though not yet by how much, and intends to act as bodyguard. He thinks himself well prepared due to his boxing and wrestling experience; he's sure that will be much more helpful than his brother’s very basic -- and reluctant -- martial arts skills. Besides, he’s already finished his A-levels and has no set plans. He might as well go along for the ride.

Name: Tristan Stebbins, thisgirl
Age: 17
Blood status: Squib
Link to magic world: Jeremy & Peyton Stebbins, older siblings (alumni, 2023)
Financial status: Struggling. Her father has been out of work for a year, and it's been hard on her family. Her mum's new job will help, but it will be awhile before things are back to "normal" for the Stebbins family.
Reason for wanting to attend Hogwarts (real): Tristan has several reasons for wanting to attend Hogwarts. Her mother, a self-proclaimed actress and acting coach at the Wizarding Academy of Dramatic Arts, has been pushing her to attend ever since she heard about a) the reality show and b) that squibs could attend. Also, she feels a little guilty making her aunt pay for her education. And, okay, possibly the biggest reason is that she caught her best friend and boyfriend of two years sleeping together at her muggle boarding school and everyone is talking about it. She does not want to go back to that.

Name: Madoc Hywel Selwyn, fortunately
Age: 15
Blood Status: Squib. For his family, the Selwyns are proverbially pure, and in fact the most prestigious wizarding family in Wales. However, his branch of the family is more devoted to preserving their Welsh heritage than their blood, and as a result they aren’t as pure as, well, Harold Selwyn or his Death Eater brother (they're far more Welsh, though). Other purebloods have used this to explain why Madoc turned out to be a squib, though everyone knows it’s a lot of nonsense.
Link to magic world: Entire Selwyn family, including his mother and father.
Financial Status: His branch of the family is not as rich as that of Harold Selwyn, but they are by no means hurting for money.
Reason for wanting to attend Hogwarts (real): Madoc has been taught by private tutors his entire life, and since he was discovered to be a squib was rarely allowed to leave his house, and never unaccompanied. He is genuinely interested in a career in muggle/wizard relations, but primarily as a means to escape his house without having to completely abandon his family, who he loves despite their dysfunctions and overprotectiveness.

Name: Chloe Ravensdale, reticence
Age: 18
Blood status: Muggle
Link to magic world: Olivia Ravensdale, younger sibling, a first-year muggleborn Gryffindor.
Financial status: Middle class – comfortable enough that Chloe doesn’t feel the need to start work immediately to, but not so well-off that she’d be able to live on their income much longer.
Reason for wanting to attend Hogwarts (real): Chloe does have an interest in Muggle/Wizarding relations, though it’s far from being a passion – she’s simply at the point in her life where she’s trying to decide what to do next, and that’s one option. The main reason she’s going into the program is that her parents want her to help and support her little sister, who is starting at Hogwarts this year. This whole magic thing is very new to them, and they’re a bit doubtful still. They want her to watch out for Olivia, take care of her and report back to them on her and on the wizarding world in general. This amounts to her being a sort of counselor/tutor to her sister this year. She’s not thrilled about it, but it’s what her parents want and she hasn’t got any other set plans to prevent her.
Classes attending: History of Magic, Muggle Studies, Defense Against the Dark Arts (her parents were a bit worried by the title and want to know what Olivia could be up against), Transfiguration, Potions, Divination.
Significant relationships with other muggles/squibs or Hogwarts students (or professors): Chloe’s only real relationship is with her sister, Olivia, her adoptive sister and her parents’ only biological child.

Name: Harrison Upjohn, upjohnny
Age: 16
Blood status: Muggle with a magical brother – Charlie (aka “Gwydion”) Upjohn, chaser for the Caerphilly Catapults
Link to magic world: Brother, aforementioned.
Financial status: Middle class, though Charlie’s income has been a nice boost – he not only bought the family a new car, but also paid off the mortgage and got some much-needed renovations done.
Reason for wanting to attend Hogwarts (real): Harrison claims he wants to ease young muggleborns' transition into the wizarding world. His family had problems adjusting to Charlie being a wizard, and having witnessed these firsthand, Harrison would be the perfect person to help families in the same situation. But his real plan is to play Quidditch.* He thinks Charlie/Gwydion has the coolest job in the world – he gets money, girls, and plays the wildest game Harrison has ever seen or heard of. Quidditch doesn’t technically require any spellcasting, so he's hoping that if he can get his foot into the wizarding world he can use his brother's name to help him get a spot in the League.
Classes attending: Ancient Runes, History of Magic, Muggle Studies, Care of Magical Creatures, Astronomy. (These happen to be the NEWT classes his brother took.)
Significant relationships with other muggles/squibs or Hogwarts students (or professors): Cousin to Samantha Smith, another muggle attending Hogwarts this year. Harrison and Samantha were inseparable as children, though they’ve since grown apart somewhat.

* For the purposes of BNW, the spells on the broom control the large movements by how you balance on the broom and which direction you lean and whether you're sitting down on it or have your weight forward, etc., and then witches and wizards who are good at broom riding do the fine control with magic. So muggles would be able to do it, but they wouldn't have the fine control. Harrison is hoping (we do not know how realistically) that with his rich brother's help and connections, he'll be able to motivate someone in the wizarding world to help him find a way to get fine control of a broom without magic.

Name: Samantha Smith (no relation to Zoe, Henry and Lottie), itssammie
Age: 16
Blood status: Muggle
Link to magic world: First cousin to Charlie (“Gwydion”) Upjohn, who plays Chaser for the Caerphilly Catapults.
Financial status: Depressingly middle-middle-class, though she likes to claim upper-middle.
Reason for wanting to attend Hogwarts (real): Aspiring actress. She knows she doesn’t have the connections to make it in the Muggle world, so she's using what wizarding connections she has. She's heard a rumour (through Charlie, who heard it from another Quidditch player, who has a cousin in the ministry) that there's some sort of television show being filmed at Hogwarts that might be shown on the Muggle telly! And maybe while she’s at it, Charlie can introduce her to one of those gorgy Quidditch players.
Classes attending: Ancient Runes, History of Magic, Muggle Studies, Divination, Astronomy. (She’s taking the same classes as Harrison, for the most part, but as she has absolutely no interest in magical beasts, she opted for Divination instead.)
Significant relationships with other muggles/squibs or Hogwarts students (or professors): Cousin to Harrison Upjohn, another muggle attending Hogwarts this year. Harrison and Samantha were inseparable as children, though they’ve since grown apart somewhat.

Name: Saraswati Mundra
Age: 18
Blood status: Muggle
Link to magic world: Siblings Dipaka and Anila Mundra currently attend Hogwarts. (There are two more siblings at home, Vasuda and Harshad.)
Financial status: The Mundras barely make ends meet.
Reason for wanting to attend Hogwarts (real): Saraswati has been incredibly jealous of her two younger siblings; they get to go off and live in a castle (with magic!) for most of the year, while she's stuck at home looking after the youngest in the family while her parents work. She jumped at the chance of coming to Hogwarts, and since she has a somewhat romanticized view of the wizarding world, she can think of nothing better than to make a career touching that world and not the grubby mundane world that's the only one she knows. She is a very hard worker and a good student, and is refusing a tuition scholarship to a minor university for this program (but she probably couldn't have taken it anyway, not having the money for lodging and incidentals). She may become somewhat disillusioned -- but in truth, this is a good opportunity for her.
Significant relationships with other muggles/squibs or Hogwarts students (or professors): She knows only her siblings, though she's met fellow liaison in training Peyton Stebbins through The Muggle Life.

Name: Libby Glass, adlibby
Age: 16
Blood status: Muggle, with magical great-grandmother and magical aunt.
Link to magic world: Libby's great-grandmother is a witch, but (unusually) none of her children are witches or wizards. Even so, Libby's branch of the family has retained some minor ties to the wizarding world (mostly, they attend extended family reunions every five years or so as "the muggle contingent"). And since Libby's great-grandmother is still alive and currently living in Hogsmeade with her sister, there have been occasional visits to the magic side of things throughout Libby's childhood -- but not often enough to make it ordinary.
Financial status: No worries about necessities, but no frills.
Reason for wanting to attend Hogwarts (real): It will be fun! The truth is, she's wanted to be able to do magic ever since she was a tiny girl watching miracles at family reunions, but it wasn't long after that that she realized she didn't want to be a witch -- she wanted to be a magician. A stage magician. And what better way to get ideas for entirely new magic effects than to go live among people who take all sorts of miracles for granted? Plus, living in a foreign culture -- it is a foreign culture, right? just look at what they wear -- may give her a more cosmopolitan air, and that could only help.

Reason for wanting to attend Hogwarts (real): It was a dare. No, really. He is interested in the program as well, but for the most part, it was the dare that did it.
